How most men and women deal with cancer is simply different. When faced with cancer, women tend to “reach out,” and men tend to “check out.”
This leads men down the path toward mental health problems, strained relationships, and poor medical outcomes. Man Up To Cancer is changing the way men go through cancer.
Founded by stave IV cancer survivor Trevor Maxwell, Man Up to Cancer fills a void in the men’s cancer healthcare landscape with camaraderie, understanding, and belonging in a way that resonates specifically for men. Men fighting cancer don’t have to be “tough” alone, they can accept help from male mentors who have been there, growing smarter and stronger as a pack than as lone wolves.
Man Up to Cancer has a vibrant digital presence as well as in-person meetings to provide men with the resources, guidance, and peer-to-peer support they need during their cancer battle.
Resources include: an amazing private online Facebook community, podcast, newsletter, chemo backpack program, book, chapter meetings, and their annual Gathering of the Wolves focused on brotherhood, healing and hope. The 2024 Gathering of the Wolves marked the largest men’s cancer retreat in the world.
